The word “minister’ as a noun means member of a clergy or head of a government department. Minister as a verb means to attend to the needs of someone or something, in other words serve. In both cases of the noun and verb, the word ‘minister’ simply has to do with SERVICE. This word has been so much abused that, anytime its mentioned, what comes to mind is a great personality who needs to be attended to! What a twist! A minister in the house of God is supposed to serve the members in the church likewise a minister of state is supposed to serve the nation. Now, the understanding we have about this word has made it that those who are supposed to be ministered to are rather ministering! Its an error which must be rectified.(I need you with me on this journey).
Jesus said to His disciples- Matthew 20:28 “For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
Our LORD came to demonstrate how to serve; He did not LORD it over His disciples. He did not sleep while His disciples did the dirty work, He went about doing good, healing and loosing souls who were in bondage to the enemy.
Note that anytime you are called to minister, you are also anointed (equipped); if you are given (equipped) with foodstuffs and money for donation to an orphanage, go and serve the orphanage.
Acts 10:38 “How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.”
Anointing is for service; so in the above scripture, we learn that Jesus was anointed by God with the Holy Ghost and with power and because he was equipped with power, he went about serving (doing good, healing etc). To him, it was not about the fame and the affluence, it was about service; He is always moved with compassion when he sees the plight of the people. A minister must be compassionate!
If you are anointed to be a teacher of the gospel, you must serve by teaching. If you are anointed to prophesy, you are a prophetic servant to the people. If you anointed to be a president, you must serve your country in all diligence, truth and love; do not expect to be rather served! You are a servant, yes i said you are a SERVANT of GOD!
Isaiah 61:1-3 “The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound; To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn; To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified.” This was exactly what Jesus came to do! (Who am i preaching to this day?)
Anointing is not for titles and affluence, it is not for fame and power! When you are anointed, you are lifted spiritually to minister-serve (in the physical)! So Jesus who is spiritually loaded, came in human flesh to serve; dying on the cross to lift us to the realm of the supernatural to be reconciled to God!
Servant of God, i call you servant of God because you are in service and you are in service to GOD, not man! It is God who will reward you; in due season, He will honor your service if you faint not. Do not miss the mark, do the work with love, be humble and again, i say be humble.
