The Will of God

The will of God is not meant to be a secret we must uncover. God wants us to understand His will far more than we want to understand it. He always makes His will clear to those who seek it with an obedient heart.

It is God’s nature to reveal Himself. And God’s revelation always involves a disclosure of His will for the individual person. It is actually impossible for a Christian who wanted to know the will of God for his life not to know it. Once we are willing to know His will, He will reveal unto us but the question is are we ready to do His will?

We all pray every now and then that “Thy will be done in my life, Oh God” but when he makes His will known to us, it becomes a big deal because it is not what we expect.

The will of God is good, infact the best but the truth is, it is not always comfortable; God’s will is intended to shake up your world and disturb your comfort zone and if you are not ready to give up and vacate your comfort zone, you tend to find His will uncomfortable and sometimes deny it is His will!

Lets take a look at the story of the rich young ruler spoken about in Mark 10. This is a man who thought he had been fulfilling God’s will from his childhood, Jesus gives him the complete revelation of what the will of God is, and his countenance changed to sad because at that point he realized what is required of him is to let go of his comfort, his treasure which is his wealth. He then understood God’s will was not as comfortable as he thought!

One thing is paramount and that is the will of God is not always pleasant in the present but it is the best when grasped! God’s will is wisdom and only those who discern spiritually will take hold of it. Jesus asked the rich young ruler to sell everything he had and give to the poor and come follow him! (The man must have thought, how? follow him where? wander about with him with no place to lay my head? Matthew 8:20 “But Jesus replied, “Foxes have dens to live in, and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has no place even to lay his head.”
Its not possible!)

(My God…can i preach it plainly to someone) God’s will is not necessarily about you preaching on a pulpit  wearing the most expensive suit or traveling all over the world and living luxuriously whilst the poor, the hungry, the sick are out there seeking a deliverer. It is time to not only preach the gospel but also live it. It is not always rosy so sometimes instead of relaxing at the back of that air conditioned range rover, you may want to go by the public transport so He can use you to deliver somebody sitting right by you! (Come on, i know about offenses but right now i ought to hit the nail right on the head!)

Sometimes, before you can shake up the world for God, you need to be shaken up yourself! The revelation shook the rich young ruler! He became sad! Can i preach to somebody reading this?

Do you now understand that sometimes you become sad and sorrowful because you have to do the needful thing? Instead of rejoicing over losing the needless, we mourn because we do not understand that what we gain in place of the loss is what we actually need – The will of God!

Mark 10:17-21″As Jesus started on his way, a man ran up to him and fell on his knees before him. “Good teacher,” he asked, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?” “Why do you call me good?” Jesus answered. “No one is good—except God alone. You know the commandments: ‘You shall not murder, you shall not commit adultery, you shall not steal, you shall not give false testimony, you shall not defraud, honor your father and mother.“Teacher,” he declared, “all these I have kept since I was a boy.”Jesus looked at him and loved him. “One thing you lack,” he said. “Go, sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”At this the man’s face fell. He went away sad, because he had great wealth.”

This is worth noting: You do not steal, you do not chase after others spouses, you do not fornicate, you respect the elderly and your parents etc but you do not think about others, you live for yourself, your family and that’s just about it. You have no business with your neighbour, the poor, the needy because you think they are not your responsibility but God’s will transcends you and your family to all humanity. So, even though you are doing all the former like the rich young ruler, you lack one important aspect which is the latter and that makes you a stranger to God’s will!

His will through His son Jesus Christ was to save the whole human race so in the garden of Gethsemane, Jesus made us aware through His prayer that left to him alone, he would not bear the pain and humiliation of the cross but His will does not count, His father’s will counts the most!

Matthew 26:38-39…He told them, “My soul is crushed with grief to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch with me.”He went on a little farther and bowed with his face to the ground, praying, “My Father! If it is possible, let this cup of suffering be taken away from me. Yet I want your will to be done, not mine.”

“Are you catching the revelation with me?” His soul was crushed with grief to the point of death; He was uncomfortable with the will of His father! The rich young ruler was of a sad countenance! (Ayayaya) It is not bread and butter to give up your possessions, to forsake your ultra modern home to  be sleeping in huts in villages so as to reach out to lost needy souls with the gospel and materially, to give up your range rover, dodge, escalade (help me name them) and pick public transport just to save a soul..not at all. It is not easy to have power to kill and disable millions of people yet you humble yourself for them to spit on you and nail you to the cross! It is not rosy at all but that is God’s WILL!

God’s will is for you to simply be obedient to His call and not dictate to Him what you want and how you want it done. It is not what you will, it is what He wills. One important way to know you are in His will is through obedience. It may seem uncomfortable but at the end your comfort will be more than you bargained for. If you give up everything for His will, if you allow Him shake your comfort zone just a bit, He will relocate you and expand your territory. Whenever you feel your comfort zone is being disturbed, know God is about to relocate and enlarge your coast. Only you have to succumb to His will; allow Him shake you out into another dimension of His glory!

Peter, after His encounter with Jesus at sea when they had the greatest catch ever that their nets were sinking, they forsook all the catch of fishes because he read deeper into that miracle, he understood that revelation and so forsook His comfort zone (His fishing profession which brought him millions and many other stuff) to follow Jesus. God’s will for him was to fish for men and not fishes! He grasped the revelation instantly!

This same Peter asked Jesus in Mark 10:28-30 “Then Peter began to speak up. “We’ve given up everything to follow you,” he said. “Yes,” Jesus replied, “and I assure you that everyone who has given up house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or property, for my sake and for the Good News, will receive now in return a hundred times as many houses, brothers, sisters, mothers, children, and property—along with persecution. And in the world to come that person will have eternal life.” I leave you with this same assurance! Stay in God’s will! The will of GodBlessings!
