Spiritual Blindness

They say that there is no one so blind as he who will not see; not as he who CANNOT see but as he WILL not see. Which means the person CAN actually see but REFUSES to see. This is true because there are many people walking around in the world today who’s eyes work just fine, yet they cannot seem to see; they are blind to their damned way of living, they are blind to opportunities, favors and blessings. In revelation 3:1 the message to the church of Sardis said ““I know all the things you do, and that you have a reputation for being alive but you are dead.….” This is the case with the world today, there are many of us who are walking alive but spiritually dead, many got good sight but spiritually are blind, they have ears but are deaf to the things of the spirit.

We dwell in a generation where God’s children are spiritually disabled in many ways which should not be the case! Ezekiel 12:2 “Son of man, you dwell in the midst of a rebellious house, which has eyes to see but does not see, and ears to hear but does not hear; for they are a rebellious house.”

Mark 10 : 46-52 tells the story of blind Bartimeaus. In this story, we are presented with a man who was absolutely (not partially) blind. Bartimaeus was born blind- he could see nothing with the physical eyes with which he had been born but spiritually he had a clear vision, a good sight that enabled him see things on a spiritual level that others were blind to. Many of us simply cannot see beyond the world around us. It is true our eyes work just fine; we don’t need to hold a cane to guide us or be led on by someone with vision but we are spiritually blind! Our eyes are shut to the truth of God’s love for us, His ever abounding grace, his plan for our lives. We are blind to the numerous opportunities at our disposal through His mercies, we do not see when He is passing our way because spiritually, we have lost our vision!

I am also reminded again of the unwavering truth that not everyone reading this article today can see (discern) the revelatory truth in God’s word! If only we can give God the opportunity, if we will allow the Spirit of the LORD speak to us , we will have our spiritual sight restored and our eyes will be opened to the truth in His word which will set us free and bring us to that place of glory where we will reign with Him in righteousness, holiness, wealth, prosperity, health and above all life eternal.

Though Bartimeaus was blind physically, spiritually he had a clear vision; You may be lacking physically but if your vision spiritually is in alignment with God’s will, if you can see with your spiritual eyes (Spirit of discernment, eyes of faith), every physical disability will be defied! I will tell you why:

Bartimeaus was blind alright, he was a begger by the roadside begging alms; his condition was pitiful and hopeless but this did not dim his spirit, he did not allow his situation to overshadow him. He did not give room for self pity which could have stolen his joy in the LORD his Saviour because the word of God tells us the joy of the LORD is our strength! Bartimeaus knew he may be lacking it all externally but internally, he got it all so he did not allow the external factors rob him of the rest of God’s blessings so in verse 47 When Bartimaeus HEARD that Jesus of Nazareth was nearby, he began to shout, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” Come on, you may be blind, but you are not deaf, you maybe sick but your not dead, you maybe dumb but you are not blind, you may not have all you want but you have all you need to make it to the next level! (Who am i preaching to?)!!! On the outside you may not look it but within you have greatness. You maybe blind (not qualified, poor, disabled, sick etc) physically but spiritually you are not blind because you have the spirit of God(Prosperity, wealth, salvation, healing, giftings, skills, talents etc) dwelling inside of you! Read this somebody and get it cemented in your heart: God always leaves a remnant; the little you will need to make it to the next level.

2 Kings 4:2 “Elisha replied to her, “How can I help you? Tell me, what do you have in your house?” “Your servant has nothing there at all,” she said, “except a small jar of olive oil. This was a widow who thought she was hopeless and and pitiful until she remembered ” come to think of it, i have just a small jar of olive oil”, Jesus asked for food to feed the multitude and lo they could only do with five loaves of bread and two fishes; the point is, in all these instances, there was a remnant- left over that made a way.

So though Batimeaus was blind and begging (seemingly hopeless and pitiful), he was not entirely hopeless. He employed his spiritual vision which overrode his physical disabilities because aside his blindness, the people also shouted at him and there was noise preventing him from hearing well but for his spiritual vision which was clear; sensitive and discerning spirit he would have missed the opportunity to be healed!

Defying his circumstances and employing the eyes of faith, Bartimeaus saw the opportunity to be healed and made whole, he saw a power greater than his impediments, he saw a man who is able to restore him to a place of honor and guess what? he did not miss the opportunity! He positioned himself well and Jesus did not pass him by! Jesus is passing your way today, this week, this month, this year.. are you going to remain blind and miss Him? David said “Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path.” (Psalm 119:105), His word is here to lighten your path, to guide and lead you beside still waters that your soul will be restored.

Even as paul prayed for the Ephesians (Ephesians 1:18), so do i for you ” I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people, amen.
Blessings
