Every now and then, we associate pride with the affluent; we consider anyone who drives an expensive car as proud. One who dresses luxuriously as arrogant etc. Most of us link humility with being passive or weak. A confident person is termed as proud but today i came to give you a different perspective on humility. Humility has nothing to do with being poor or rich; we have poor people who are very proud and likewise rich people who are equally proud and vice versa. Get your perspectives right on this; the PROUD are not the RICH and the HUMBLE are not the POOR;
A very concrete example to dispute the assertion that the rich are the proud is that of the richest and yet humblest man ever; our LORD JESUS CHRIST; Psalm 24:1 “The earth is the LORD’S, and the fullness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein.” He is the most affluent man; silver and gold are His, He makes rich and makes poor, He sets up one and brings down another; He said to his disciples in Matthew 28:18 ” And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.”
There is none greater, powerful, richer than the man JESUS yet he demonstrated the greatest act of humility by not considering all He is and have and humbled Himself to the point of death, even death on the cross! He gave up His right as the son of the most high and stooped low to bear our punishment that we may have life! What meekness!
Philippians 2:5-8 “Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross”
Do not confuse a humble person with an introvert , do not confuse a humble person with someone who takes the public transport, do not confuse a humble person with someone who prefers the local eatery to a plush restaurant. Humility is about none of those.
Humility is not timidity, stupidity, it is not poverty, it is not weakness; Humility is wisdom and strength, beauty and wealth, spiritual maturity, it is giving up the right to be right so as to be in right standing with God. Practically, humility is blessing those who curse you, accepting those who reject you, smiling even if they frown at you, loving when they hate and despise, happy and thanking God for the little and even sharing with those who have more… I do not see someone foolish but i see a wise, powerful, strong, rich and beautiful soul doing all these. Stay humble!
